Christianity is a monotheistic religion centered on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth as presented in the New Testament. As of the early 21st century. Christianity has between 1.5 billion and 2.1 billion adherents, representing about a quarter of the world’s population. It is the state religion of at least sixteen countries.
Its followers, known as Christians, believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the Messiah (or Christ) prophesied in the Old Testament, the part of their scriptures they have in common with Judaism. To Christians, Jesus Christ is a teacher, the model of a pious life, the revealer of God, the mediator of salvation and the savior who suffered, died and was resurrected in order to bring about salvation from sin for all. Christians maintain that Jesus ascended into heaven and most denominations teach that Jesus will judge the living and the dead, granting everlasting life to his followers. Christians describe the New Testament account of Jesus’ ministry as the Gospel, or “good news”.
The Trinity is often regarded as an essential doctrine of mainstream Christianity. The most common understanding of the Holy Trinity, as espoused in the Nicene Creed, is one God who exists in three Persons – Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – who are coequal, co-eternal, of the same substance. “Father, Son and Holy Spirit” represents both the immanence and transcendence of God. God is believed to be infinite and God’s presence may be perceived through the actions of Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
This definition of Christianity, taken from a popular encyclopedia is Biblically accurate and I believe stands up to the scrutiny of the scriptures. A concept that is missing from this definition but very real is the influences man has had on Christianity.
Throughout The History of Christianity, Mortals have introduced various doctrines or practices, which have resulted in many so-called “Dominations”. Although the main theme of Christianity within most of these denominations is common, some practices are quite different. Some have actually changed or misuse the wording of God’s word and therefore crossed over into the realm of the Cults. Therein lays the problem. There seems to be a considered necessary and deliberate attempt to conform God’s teaching to something that makes us feel better or justified in our idea of the way things should be and it has been this way almost from the beginning of the Church.
God has never had but one method of Salvation. That method is a complete and total trust in Jesus Christ and nothing but Christ. Salvation is a gift of God by Grace, through Faith. It is true that God set down some laws (The Ten Commandments) and these laws are very much still valid. But when really analyzed, in the light of the whole Bible, you will find that the Old Testament Laws and practices was pointing toward Christ just as the New Testament was looking back toward Christ and Calvary. John 14:6: Jesus himself said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
